Objectives

  • To enhance the mental development of young children in low income families by instilling in them a love for reading, for learning through stories, arts & crafts, games, exploration and creative projects
  • To foster family bonding and build quality relationships

25 sessions, 2 1/2 hours per session

Schedule
Saturday 2pm -4.30pm from February to November

Eligibility criteria for admission to program

  • Children from families under financial assistance scheme
  • Primary 1 level
  • Identified as slow reader
  • Singapore citizen

Minimum Qualification required of volunteers
Competence in English language

Training for volunteers

  • Orientation   
  • Effective Storytelling
  • Correct pronunciation in English language

BCCS' Expectations of volunteers

  • Regular attendance
  • Good team player
  • Willing and able to actively engage child and parent during the program
  • Participate in at least one bonding activity outside of the program
